At one time The Sonepur Fair was the biggest cattle fair in Asia. Centuries old, it is famous for its Haathi Bazaar,
where hundreds of elephants where bought and sold each year. The fair attracts not only buyers and sellers of animals
from all over the country but also Hindu devotees who take a dip in the adjoining Ganga river on Kartik Poornima
(or the Full Moon day)
